What is the Veterans Card - Victoria?
Victoria thanks Australian Defence Force (ADF) members for their service. The digital Veterans Card – Victoria entitles all past and present ADF members living in Victoria to discounts and benefits including:
- $100 off light vehicle rego
- Free trailer or caravan rego
- Free marine licence
- Fishing licence exemption
- Free public transport on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day
- Veteran employment programs
Who is eligible for a Veterans Card – Victoria?
All past or present members of the ADF living in Victoria are eligible. You can apply for a Veterans Victoria card if you served in uniform in the:
- Australian army, (including NORFORCE)
- Royal Australian Navy
- Royal Australian Air Force
How do I get a digital Veterans Card – Victoria?
Before you start, you’ll need:
- Proof of your service. You can use one of 3 ID numbers:
- PMKeyS number
- Regimental or service number
- DVA Card number
- Two identity documents from this list. Your name on the 2 documents must match.
- Medicare Card
- Australian birth certificate
- Australian driver licence / learner permit
- Australian passport current or less than three years expired
- ImmiCard current or less than 3 years expired
- Foreign passport with a valid Australian visa working rights
- Australian citizenship certificate
The Service Victoria app on your smartphone. Get the Service Victoria app from Google Play. Get the Service Victoria app from the App Store. You can quickly and easily apply for and store your digital Veterans Card – Victoria on your smartphone.
You can also apply for your Veterans Card – Victoria at online at service.vic.gov.au/services/veterans-card-victoria. We’ll send you a confirmation email with your card number. Your digital card will be available in the Service Victoria app on your smartphone. Once you receive your confirmation email, open your Service Victoria app, log in to your Service Victoria account and tap ‘My wallet’. - Open the Service Victoria app on your phone. Log in to your Service Victoria account by tapping ‘Log in’ at the bottom right of the home screen and following the prompts. If you see ‘Account’ in the bottom right of the screen, it means you’re already logged in.
- Once you’re logged into your account, tap ‘My wallet’ at the bottom of the screen.
If it’s the first time you’ve used your digital wallet, you’ll see a list of cards you can add. Tap ‘Veterans card – Victoria’.
If you already have cards in your digital wallet, you’ll see your existing cards and an option to add more cards. Tap ‘Add’ then tap ‘Veterans Card – Victoria’. - Tap ‘Get started’.
- You’ll need to verify your identity to confirm who you are and protect you from identity fraud. Tap ‘Next’.
- If you haven’t proven and saved your identity with Service Victoria before, you’ll need to prove your identity now. Tap ‘Log in’ and enter your email and password. Tap ‘Log in’ again. You’ll then go to step 6.
If you’ve previously proven and saved your identity to your Service Victoria account, tap ‘Log in’ and enter your email and password. You’ll see your name. Confirm it’s you by tapping ‘Yes’. You’ll then go to step 12 and need to give details of your service. - Tap the circle next to your first ID then tap ‘next’.
- Enter the document details then tap ‘Verify’. You’ll see a message telling you we’re checking the details of your ID. You’ll see a green tick when it’s verified.
- Tap the circle next to your second ID then tap ‘Next’.
- Enter the document details then tap ‘Verify’. You’ll see a message telling you we’re checking the details of your ID. You’ll see a green tick when it’s verified.
- Choose if you’d like us to remember you verified your identity. If you choose ‘Yes’, you’ll be able to reuse this verification next time you do a transaction through Service Victoria. It’ll save you time and effort. Tap ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ then tap ‘Next’.
- Tap the circle next to the ID type you’ll use to confirm your service. Enter the ID number. Tap ‘Next’.
- Agree to the consent and declaration by tapping the box to tick. Choose if you’d like to get updates by tapping the box to tick. Tap ‘Submit’.
- You’ll see a confirmation screen with the transaction number. You can provide feedback or tap ‘Done’ or ‘X’ on the top left of the screen.
- You’ll see your digital wallet with your digital Veterans Card – Victoria added. If you don’t see your digital card in your wallet straight away, wait a few minutes.
You can easily show your digital Veterans Card – Victoria once it’s in your digital wallet.

A business or organisation can use the Service Victoria app to scan the QR code on a digital Veterans Card – Victoria to make sure it is valid. The QR code refreshes after 2 minutes. The digital card includes a hologram, which moves when the phone is tilted. You can also pull down on the details screen to refresh.

- We’ll send you a confirmation email with your digital Veteran Card – Victoria number. Yes, once you’ve applied for your Veteran Card – Victoria and received your confirmation email you will get a digital card linked to your Service Victoria account. To see your digital card:

Only one concession can be used for a light motor vehicle registration. If you use your Veterans Card - Victoria for a discount, you can’t also use a pension or healthcare card to get a discount. You should decide which discount best suits you.
You can use both the Veterans Card - Victoria discount and the $100 electric vehicle (ZLEV) discount on your vehicle registration.
A light motor vehicle is a sedan, car, ute, 4x4, van or motorcycle that weighs 4.5 tonnes or less. The vehicle must be for personal use.

No, the discount is only available on personal vehicles. You can’t use it on vehicles owned by an organisation.
No, you can only use your Veterans Card – Victoria discount on one vehicle.
A discount can be applied to a light motor vehicle registered in the name of a veteran’s spouse/domestic partner or carer.
You must provide the name of your partner or carer when applying and you will need to provide the following:
- an original standard marriage certificate from the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages or registries in other Australian ; or
- an original standard relationship certificate (specifying it is a domestic relationship) from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Australia and
- original statutory declarations from each spouse or domestic partner that declares your relationship.
